The Toss
A hand painted tennis racket
This piece began with my son's tennis racket. It broke, just enough that it couldn't be repaired, but it still looked too good to throw away. I found someone who could stretch a canvas where the strings are usually strung. One thing led to another, and I am happy to present “The Toss”.
The painting catches the quietest moment in tennis: a player in Wimbledon whites, ball suspended mid-toss, nothing decided yet. Behind him, a mountain lake that no real court has ever seen. A racket that finished its playing days now holds the game forever, one serve away.
